From Brad E Lane
Author, Hope for Lung Cancer

...

Dear friend,

If you or someone you love is currently struggling with lung cancer, then this may be the most inspiring message you're likely to read.

And here's why. Recently, I decided to bring a message of hope to Lung Cancer sufferers everywhere by compiling an e-book about 7 amazing people who had 2 things in common...

1. They all had lung cancer.

2. They all beat the cancer.

And that's very good news because it proves, beyond doubt, that lung cancer can be beaten; that it is not necessarily a death sentence; that there really is hope.

Having Lung Cancer can be a frightening experience, and you may be feeling worried, scared and unsure where to turn. But I have good news for you. You're not alone in this. There is hope. Here you'll discover how other people have managed their cancer and even OVERCAME it altogether.

I'd like to share with you how this book was born ...

You see, for years I had tried to help a friend with his condition by scouring the internet, night after night, month after month, hoping to find any little bit of information that might bring him some hope. After literally months of searching, I finally began to come across people who had beaten the odds. And they all had answers. And their stories were incredibly inspiring. And for many of them, there was a similar theme. Take, for example, Deb's story.

How Could a Routine Medical Check Up Turn Out Like This!

"I was 40 years old at the time of my diagnosis. I had a pain in my side, so I went to the doctor. And that led to an x-ray - which showed us a suspicious looking area. The doctor sent me to a lung specialist on the same day, and he wanted to have a biopsy done on it!

I was worried about that; very worried because I had formerly been a smoker. I was afraid it was cancer. Nobody had said that, but I just was afraid that it was. It was really scary. I didn't handle that period very well. I was just kind of numb. It just seemed like it took forever. I wish then that I had known a place where I could talk to somebody."

I was booked in for a biopsy the next morning.

The first thing many of us do is go straight to our computer and begin searching the internet for any information on lung cancer.

"On the Internet, you don't know – I mean, anybody can type anything they want on there, you just don't know what is actual information."

There is so much information, most of it clinical, talking about "small cell, non small cell and metastatic lung cancer". Many people have no idea what that all means and quickly become quite frustrated and confused with the vast amounts of information, especially with all those medical terms. You may even be thinking, "I'd have to be a scientist to understand all this stuff!"

And of course there were all those websites selling all sorts of "miracle cures"; wonder herbs, potions and who-knows-what else. I thought to myself cynically "Do people really believe that stuff?" But I secretly wondered if I would ever be one of those people, willing to try just about anything that offered even a glimmer of hope.

Then I began to come across survival stories.

One by one, they began to appear. Remarkable people who had refused to accept "no" for an answer, who had kept on searching and trying out different ways, and who refused to simply lie down and be told "theres nothing more we can do".

They had explored many different methods of treatment and had done a fortune of research. And it became clear that their stories needed to be heard, and that lung cancer sufferers around the world needed a complete, easy-to-use, and uplifting book about how to beat lung cancer. And that was when this book was born: "Hope for Lung Cancer: How 7 Survivors Beat the Disease". Deb's story was one of these. I decided to set up a website to share this information with others, and which could also raise funds for cancer research.

When I heard their stories, I was overjoyed.

The book begins with a series of Frequently Asked Questions. Finally, I had found some easy-to-read, thoroughly researched and practical answers (in plain English) to the questions that I had been thinking about so much. Questions like:

1. What are the signs and symptoms of lung cancer? How do I know if I've got it?
Why was the doctor so concerned? What was it that looked so ominous? How worried should I be? Is it possible that the doctor was over-reacting?

2. What tests will the doctor carry out to check if I do, in fact, have lung cancer?
Will they be able to tell me right away if there is a problem? Or will I have to wait for days, worrying and fretting?

3. How curable is lung cancer?
If they do tell me it's lung cancer, what exactly does that mean? Is it a "death sentence"? Will they tell me "You have 12 months to live. Get your life in order and prepare for the worst."?

4. What are the stages of the disease if left untreated?
I knew that there were different stages of lung cancer. But what are the actual symptoms of each stage? And what are the survival rates at each stage? If I had a later stage lung cancer, wouldn't I feel like I was actually sick?

5. How quickly does the disease progress or spread?
Should I have gone to the doctor sooner? I'd noticed my coughing becoming worse over the last 3 months or so. Was this delay critical?

6. How is lung cancer normally treated?
Would I have to go through chemotherapy? What about radiation treatment? If I did have to have them, then for how long? What are the chances of these treatments actually curing the disease? How extensive is any surgery likely to be?

7. What are the common side effects of the treatments?
Should I expect to lose my hair? Could I possibly become sterile? Anything else?

8. What alternative treatments are available?
I'd heard of people using special herbs, diets and that sort of thing. I'd seen lots of alternative remedies on the internet. Which ones are proven and reliable? Which ones are bogus? Can I combine alternative treatments with western treatments? How do I find doctors that understand how to use both alternative and western treatments?

9. What new treatments are currently being developed? What clinical trials are being carried out?
How could I find out about the latest clinical trials? What do I do to be a part of them?

10. What do I do in the first week after being diagnosed?
I didn't actually feel sick, so it didn't make sense to stay home in bed. But how could I just go back to work and try to ignore it? What would give me the best chance?

11. How do I get in touch with others who are going through the same thing? What support groups are available for lung cancer sufferers or friends and family?
I knew that it would help if I talked to other people, particularly about their emotional journey in the early stages. And how on earth would I tell my family? I have two young children and a husband. I was petrified at the just the thought of telling them.

12. How and where do I get counseling?
I realized that I would most likely want professional support, but where do I go to find a good counselor, one who works with other cancer sufferers and understands what weÕre going through?

Here, finally, were answers. It was all in this book.

The book includes interviews with seven people who have beaten lung cancer. And they are real stories - no beating around the bush – just real people telling us how it happened for them; how they had beaten the odds and overcome lung cancer.

Dee's story

We start with Dee's story. At 48, Dee was diagnosed with cervical cancer, which later metastasized to her lungs. She was told quite bluntly by her doctor that she wouldn't survive. "I said goodbye to some of my friends." But after much searching, Dee found a little-known but highly effective treatment to manage her cancer. It's called LDN, and, she says, "it increases your endorphin levels up to 200 to 300%, and that combats cancer." Whilst LDN doesn't actually cure the cancer, it dramatically slows down its growth. And thanks to LDN, Dee continues to lead a vital life, working in the corporate world and maintaining an active social life. Dee talks about the resistance she experienced from traditional doctors towards her alternative therapy. "Even if I mentioned it, they wouldn't want to even discuss it with me." She is currently at Stage 4B, which is remarkable because, in her words "4B is not even listed; At 4B, there is no chance of survival. Zero. I shouldn't be here - and I'm going to dinner, I'm normal. I have a normal life. I'm absolutely normal."

Deb's story

Deb was the mother four children when she was told at age 40 that she had Stage 3B lung cancer. Deb talks openly about how she reacted to the fear she felt. "When I was first diagnosed, they said that big C word and I didn't hear anything else." Deb discusses the effect of her diagnosis on her family. "It was just as hard for them as it was for me. It was really hard for me to talk to them because they couldn't hear it."  And Deb's views on the importance of maintaining a positive attitude: "I decided that I was going to do everything that I could. I lived my life trying to be happy." Ten years later, Deb has seven grandchildren and is an inspiration to all who meet her.

RJ's story

RJ's story is similar to Deb's. He was diagnosed a few months before his 52nd birthday, just before Christmas. "I didn't tell anybody for about a month. I didn't want to ruin everybody's Christmas." He said he initially felt numb from the news – he was given 3 to 9 months, over 2 years ago! RJ talks about his negative experiences with the first doctors he went to, and how, after a bit of searching, found a doctor who said to him "I can cure you." RJ gives references to the doctors he used, the diet which has helped him and the attitude that got him through his challenging times. He says "About a year later, my scans looked so clean that the doctor said, "I would say you're cured."

Lori's story

Next is Lori, a remarkable lady who is the author of a great book, called "Help Me Live: 20 Things People With Cancer Want You to Know." Lori is an Emmy Award-winning documentary writer who has also appeared as a guest on "Oprah" and continues to be an inspiration to people everywhere.  Lori talks freely about how she felt at the time. "I was terrified because I'd never heard of anyone surviving lung cancer." Lori now works with the Lung Cancer Alliance and is in regular contact with lung cancer survivors. She writes blogs on the internet and regularly speaks about the disease "To give hope to all of us". In her interview, Lori mentions a number of books, websites and organizations which helped her in her journey. She leads a passionate and fulfilling life, and her message is truly uplifting. "I'm so hopeful because every day new treatments are being developed and it just seems like there are so many things coming down the pike."

Sharon's story

Sharon's story is very special. Diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and told that there was no cure, Sharon turned to her spiritual training (she is a practicing Buddhist) to help her through. Her attitude is remarkable. "I looked at my daughter and my sister and I said, "We are in for an incredible journey."" Sharon's journey led her to a number of herbal and Chinese remedies which helped at different stages of the treatment, and in her interview she gives detailed references to these remedies, as well as the organizations she used. Sharon made extensive use of alternative therapies, including Reiki, acupuncture and meditation, and discusses this all in her interview. Now, 5 years later, Sharon continues to serve her community with her wisdom and warmth. Her message of hope is strong. "There are over 150,000 people who make it every year. You could be one of those people. Somebody has to be."

Ed's story

Ed was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (the final and almost-always fatal kind) when he was 61 years old. The doctor told him "It's terminal. You don't have long to live. Get a coffin, a plot, and get your legal affairs in order." Not willing to accept that, Ed got a second opinion. "I said to the [second] doctor, "Is there any hope?" And he said, "There's always hope." That was over 4 years ago, and Ed is now the Director of the Lung Cancer Alliance in Georgia. He and his wife Linda now work actively and tirelessly to pass that hope on to others. In this interview, both Ed and Linda (herself a cancer survivor), talk about how they managed the emotional challenge, about how many new treatments get covered up, and where to learn of the latest treatments and clinical trials. They went to work researching, meeting people, attending conferences, until they found something that would actually work. "I've made it my business to find out who the top people are working in the United States in lung cancer." And they share all of that here. Ed and Linda buck the trends and make their own trails, which others are now able to follow. Linda says "People have to understand cancer and learn about it and not be afraid of it because your chances of having cancer in your lifetime of one type or another are extremely high."

Greg's story

And finally there's Greg. Greg was 37 years old when he was diagnosed and was given only 30 days to live. Now, 23 years later, he has conducted interviews with over 16,000 cancer survivors and written an international best-seller called "The Cancer Conqueror", which outlines a step-by-step transformation from despair to hope. He is also the founder of Cancer Recovery Foundation International. From his extensive experience, he states "Orthodox medical treatment alone does not maximize one's opportunity for cancer survival."  Greg's positive attitude is very empowering. "Many people's responses will be filled with hopelessness and pity. Neither serve you well. Decide to let your spirit of optimism be the controlling factor. Refuse to give in to helplessness."

Included with the interview is a bonus 22-page article outlining Greg's philosophy and total wellness modelincluded free with your copy of Hope for Lung Cancer: How Seven Survivors Beat the Disease.

"By The Time You've Read The Last Page of "Hope for Lung Cancer – How 7 Survivors Beat the Disease" ... You'll Feel Completely Renewed, With A New Strength and a New Hope!

One of the most impressive things for me about the survivors' stories was the mental attitude of these people. It wasn't all the medical & clinical stuff that other websites talk about. It was the emotional side, and the certainty in them that said "I WILL beat this thing. And I WILL NOT let it get to me."

And yet they were just seven "ordinary" people who managed to find this strength inside themselves. I loved how they shared in their stories; especially the way they remained positive, even when things were at their lowest. That, to me, was the key to their survival. It was far more than just the surgery or the chemo. It was their attitudes. And I had never seen anything quite like it anywhere else.
